The small study involved 16 people with obesity – researchers compared fat tissue under the skin of those who exercised at least four times a week for two years, compared to those who did not regularly exercise. They found that living a physically active lifestyle – regardless of weights – makes our fat tissue healthier, and better able to store fat. This is significant because as we age, we will put on weight, but those who had a habit of regular exercise can shift that weight to fat stores, compared to it going to our liver or heart, and potential chronic health conditions.
