The energy of race day is a vibe.
This past weekend, Toronto was vibing as over 5000 passionate athletes descended upon the Enercare Centre for the inaugural Canadian Hyrox race. With solo, doubles and relay races, thousands of kilometres were run, balls were slammed against walls, sleds were pulled and kettlebells were carried, with sweaty high fives along the way.
What was really playing out was the eclipsing moment of hard work and training coming to fruition. And, for many, they didn’t do it alone – they trained at their gym for this moment.
Toronto’s Josette Chen was one of those people who was motivated to sign up for Hyrox because her gym, One Academy, had not only HYROX Ambassadors, but a whole crew training for Race Day. “I sustained a meniscus tear early in the 2024 season, resulting in my having to cancel many of my running events, including the Berlin marathon. I rehabbed diligently, doing lots of strength training at One. A month ago, I started running again, and decided to sign up for Hyrox. The atmosphere was electric!”
