Beyond the Members

Dec 30, 2024

As we look towards 2025, there is one guarantee: New members are going to flood our facilities in January. Health and fitness continually tops the resolutions list, and according to a recent TELUS health study, 7 out of 10 Canadians want to be healthier in 2025.

The trends continue to show that technology, strength training, coaching and community are primary reasons why our members not only join, but stay. How can we support the health of our members – the newbies and the veterans – and thrive in business?

Fitness Industry Council of Canada looks at the top trends that will impact our businesses in 2025 and how to get the most bang for your buck:

1. Harness the power of technology

Every business owner knows that a member who signs on the dotted line is committed to starting – but how do we keep them going? Given that more than 50 percent of Canadians are not getting the recommended 150 minutes of exercise per week, we know many who come to the gym for the first time in January might need a little more guidance – personal training, nutrition advice or health coaching. Upsell programming not only to your new clients, but members who might not know all your services.

USE THE TREND: Use AI to create intake tools that provide more details on your members wants and needs. Create blogs about consistency, training tips, meal planning and more. Set your trainers up for success by using AI Personal training programs that cut their work time, while allowing them to focus on the client one on one. Consider using technology such as push notifications when your members are working out on the gym floor. They might not know about the Happy Hour smoothie – but SMS technology has evolved to allow them to get a notification during their workouts. Use your mailing list wisely, and continue to educate and inspire!
